Skynet controls my brain

Hey everyone, I've decided to start keeping a comics review blog for my recreational reading.Lately I've been reading alot of stuff from Dark horse.Mainly movie properties that where optioned for development into comics, stuff like Alien, Predator, AVP, and Terminator. Much to my surprise, I found that alot of the writing from the dark horse omnibus collections of these titles, is actually pretty ok.Notable contributors include the likes of James Robinson(starman), Matt Wagner(Grendle, Madame Xanadu) John Arcudi(the mask, B.P.R.D.), and Evan Dorkin(milk and cheese).Oh and Chris Claremont, but I didn't read his work because I find his stuff to be kind of hit or miss lately.(keeping in mind that it IS some of his older work, so it could actually be quite good, I wouldn't know, I haven't read it.)
I would even go so far as to say that in some cases, the writing in these comics surpases that found in the movies of the same name.Particularly the first AVP collection, which has far more character development than in the silver screen offering which arrived some 15 years after the publication of it's source material.Sheesh, you would think that with all that time, they could have gotten it right.Never-the-less, if you are a fan of stories about hideous monsters wailing on each other, it's a fantastic read. Check it out. It's not high art by any strech of the imagination,
but the combination of invisible hunters and alien bugs is hard to resist.Believe me.
The Terminator Omnibi( 'cause there are two of 'um) where printed in the late 80's between the release of the first and second movie, and prior to the most recent film, where the only place that the future world ,in which the war aginst the machines is being carried out, was ever explored in any detail.I think that this is due to the books deliberatly shying away from the events in Sarah Connors life, so as not to impinge upon future movies. For this reason, the stories in these vollumes go in some rather unexpected directions, introducing a whole new cast of characters who where either peripheral or abscent from the first film. The premise is essentially the same, a terminator is sent back from the future, and rebels follow it, but fail to destroy the time machine, usually because the rebels who stayed behind to do just that are killed when more terminators arrive, who then also travel in time, leaving the portal unguarded so more rebels can return to try and blow it up. Repeat adnauseam. You know, you would think that someone would eventually notice the abundance of naked time travelers in a city like Los Angeles.Go figure.
Anyways, that's all for now. Untill next time.

Nat
Well that's all for now.Untill next time.
