Jonah Hex was an officer for the Confederacy during the American Civil War, fought at Gettysburg and is normally shown wearing a tattered Confederate States Army jacket. Hex is surly and cynical. This series is published without the external restraints of the Comics Code which allows for harder edged stories without having to keep with the Vertigo imprint's dark fantasy themes.
